Digital Actors

1. Is this acting or is this animation?
The movie Avatar in my opinion, is both acting and animation. The movie uses acting from a real human person, however, the creators use technology to make the human into a blue animated creature. The acting and the animation are both important aspects to this particular film. This being, the real acting is needed to capture the real emotions of humans, but the animation is also needed to add a unique effect to the film that makes it different from the rest. The movie Avatar cannot be separated into either category because it utilizes both.

2. Do you think that animated character should be eligible for acting awards?
Personally, I don't think that animated characters should be eligible for acting awards. Animated characters do not fully show the real human qualities that actors should have. The characters are only true and real to a certain extent and the rest is done using digital technology. Acting is a talent that not many people have, and if it comes to a point where animated characters can overtake real actors due to technology, the art of acting becomes less valuable. However, to solve this, I think there should be a new award introduced presented exclusively to digital actors.

3. Do you think that human actors will ever become obsolete? Why or why not?
Human actors will never become obsolete because they bring forth a whole other dimension of emotion to screen plays. I do not believe that any animation could perform as well as a human being. No matter how great technology develops in the future, it can never beat the real characteristics of a human being. The emotions that humans portray on camera is very different to that of technology and if ever compared, it is evident that digital technology will never live up to that of real actors.
